INAPPROPRIATE PRACTICE

Picture
A powerful whistleblower drama, currently in development
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS SCRIPT:

Bluecat competition coverage (March 2018)
[Caren] makes a terrific character arc as she finds her power and her voice. The audience is taken on an emotional roller coaster ….it is inspiring to see that she will stop at nothing to take Gus down.

Ben Richards - Producer, Animus Productions
It has a clever pace to it and very strong characters who I can clearly see in action on screen.   Top drama. Wonderful work.

Harriet Rees - Producer, Kaleidoscope Films
I really enjoyed the read.  It's extremely well written, and of course bang on the money in the current climate.

Hayley Dickinson - freelance filmmaker
Your script is such a breath of fresh air…..The characters, the motives, the locations! A film like this is ridiculously relevant to what’s going on in every industry. You should be incredibly proud of this work of art.

INAPPROPRIATE PRACTICE

Logline

A dream job turns into the role from hell when newly separated lawyer Caren finds herself working for a manipulative senior partner at a prestigious city law firm – and quickly discovers that his notion of entitlement extends way beyond the boardroom…

Genre
Whistleblower drama.

Short Synopsis
After the sudden overseas break-up of her marriage, CAREN badly needs a job in London. It’s not going to be easy. She’s been out of the workplace for several years, bringing up two kids for whom she now seems to be solely responsible.

Caren’s best friend from university, the super-ambitious NANCY, fixes her up with a job at the prestigious city law firm where she is a junior partner. It seems too good to be true, and things do go brilliantly at first. But before long, Caren becomes the victim of insidious sexual harassment at the hands of her immediate boss, the charming but Machiavellian GUS.

Initially worried about losing her job, Caren puts up and shuts up. But when Gus goes too far during a company “away weekend”, everything changes.

Gus will deny everything, of course. If Caren reports him to the police, and the case goes to court, he will pay for top legal representation and probably walk free.  Word gets around quickly in the legal profession. Caren will become known as a troublemaker. She could be blacklisted. She might never work as a lawyer again.

She cannot afford to take that risk. But at the same time she is determined not to let Gus get away with this.

Time for Plan B.

Covert investigations are called for, and Caren finds herself testing her friendships and loyalties to the max in pursuit of her goal.  Her mental and physical equilibrium is challenged as she digs deep to discover the toxic, cover-up culture that has enabled highly inappropriate behaviour to pervade at this law firm for decades.

Can Caren unearth enough evidence to trigger Gus’s downfall without jeopardising her own career? Or is he as invincible as he has led himself
to believe …?

TINDERBOX

Picture
A period drama series for television
1961. The colourful inhabitants of a Welsh coastal town take part in a bizarre-but-true post-war experiment: former enemies + enforced social integration = tinderbox.

Sixteen years after the end of World War II, an extraordinary NATO peace initiative leads to the setting up of a German tank training battalion on a British army base in Pembrokeshire, South West Wales.

Many local residents are incensed. The last thing they want to see is German tanks rolling through their streets. The young German soldiers are nervous too: how on earth is this crazy scheme going to work? But despite political national and local opposition, the controversial plans go ahead. Pathé news reel here.

The German troops settled and remained at Castlemartin Range for 35 years. Over time, they became an accepted and much-loved part of the community.

TINDERBOX is an ensemble period drama series positioned on both sides of the barbed wire fence, telling fictional stories inspired by the families and individuals who lived through this unique time in European history. In these days of racial, religious and political tension, themes of forgiveness, understanding and humanity are in the zeitgeist now, more than ever. This series offers a canvas for exploring such themes in an engaging, original, fun and yet thought-provoking way.

BOOMERANG

Picture
A comedy drama series for television
Kids are for life, not just for Christmas.

Babyboomers are retiring. They’ve worked hard all their lives, brought up kids to the best of their ability, adapted to empty nest syndrome and the care and loss of elderly parents. Now it’s their time.

High octane couple MIKE and CARRIE love their kids to bits and want to see them all happy - but at the same time, they are determined to enjoy an active retirement. The two goals are not necessarily in sync. How can they disentangle themselves from their dysfunctional adult children’s lives when they keep on bouncing back home?
